I have complete control over my own schedule, which I love. While mixing I am given the freedom to express my artistic vision, and I then work with the artist and producer to make sure that my vision fits with theirs. You also are supporting their creative goals without necessarily having any creative input. You have to show up when they want you to show up, and leave when they want you to leave. Also, in the beginning of 2015 I moved from New York to LA because there are more studios here, and there’s more work, and a more relaxed way of life. I had to work hard to become a great engineer and it took the same time and effort to become a great mixer. Converting from being primarily an engineer to being primarily a mixer was a challenge.
